OBIT - Boerner

Gustave W. “Jack” Boerner 91, was reunited on Thursday July 14, 2016 with the love of his life, Ruth, his wife of almost 59 years who passed away just six weeks ago. Gus was born Sept. 9, 1924 in Wausau, Wis., to the late Gustav and Elizabeth (Fliss) Boerner.

He married Ruth I. Pugh on Sept. 21, 1957 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Portage, Wis. She preceded him in death on May 31, 2016. Gus retired from the Beloit Corporation after being employed for 311/2 years.

He was a man of deep faith who prayed the rosary daily. Gus was a charter member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Clinton. He built the Altar for St. Stephen’s with Ruth doing the finish on it. He loved woodworking in his younger years.

Gus also loved his Country, serving in the United States Marine Corps 1944-1946 in the South Pacific. He was honored by having a chapter in the book ”The Hero Next Door Returns” dedicated to his life in the Marines.

Gus was a life member of the SW WI Marine Corps League, life member Order of the Devil Dogs of the Marine Corps League, life member of Walter Graham Post 332 in Rockton and life member of VFW Post 10430 in Clinton. He was especially proud when he attended the VetsRoll trip in 2015.

Gus loved his garden and flowers and took great pride in his lawn. He made sure all excess produce was given to someone in need, especially the Sparrow’s Nest in Beloit. Gus was also a regular blood donor.

He is survived by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nieces and great nephews, and many good neighbors and friends in Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Gilbert, George, John and Griffith and sister, Grace.

Gus’ Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in St. Stephen Catholic Church, 716 Shular Lane, Clinton, with Fr. Bill Connell officiating. Friends were received on Tuesday at Church from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

Interment and Full Military Burial Rites followed the service in Clinton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Stephen’s Catholic Church; VetsRoll: Beloit Regional Hospice or any charity of your choice. Please share a memory or a condolence with the family on our website.
