Cardinals come out on top in dual meets

BRODHEAD — The Brodhead-Juda boys’ track and field team cruised to a couple of dual-meet wins, 100-46 over Beloit Turner and 108-38 over Clinton. The girls’squad picked up a pair of dual-meet victories, beating Beloit Turner 82-64 and Clinton 102-44 last Tuesday.

In the 100-meter dash, senior Dylan Kubly just edged teammate, senior Jake Harper by one one-hundredth of a second in a thrilling finish. Freshman Theodore Policastro secured fourth with a time of 12.2 seconds.

Freshman Jeffery Williams earned second with a mark of 23.9 seconds in the 200-meter dash.  Senior Jake Pickel took third with a time of 25 seconds.

The Cardinals dominated the 400-meter dash, taking the top three spots.  Junior Reuben Larson won the race with a time of 53.6 seconds. Harper placed second at 55 seconds, and sophomore Justice Tway earned third with a time of 56.5 seconds.

Junior Tyler Urness won the 800-meter title with a mark of 2:13.3. Larson continued his strong day with asecond place finish at 2:16, and senior Derick Byrne took fourth at 2:18.8.

Junior Nate Ciabatti took the 1600-meter crown with a time of 4:57.1.  Urness secured second with a time of 5:01.8, and sophomore Holden Whitledge took third at 5:02.3.

Whitledge won the 3200-meter run with a mark of 11:27. Nate Ciabatti earned second at 11:38.3.

In the 100-meter hurdles, junior Taylor Hawkinsonwon with a time of 17.9 seconds.  Junior Noah Steinmann also had a strong showing in the 100-meter hurdles with a fourth place finish at 21.5 seconds.

Steinmann won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.2 seconds, edging Clinton’s Vegter by .1 seconds.

In a tight race, the Cardinals took second in the 4×100 relay with a mark of 46.9 seconds.

Brodhead-Juda also secured second in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:39.2.

Brodhead-Juda cruised to the win in the 4×400 relaywith a time of 3:42 beatingthefield by 14 seconds. The members of the winning relay team included sophomore Brekkan Day, Harper, Larson and Steinmann.

The Cardinals took the 4×800 title with a time of 9:27. The relay team consisted of junior Jack Speckman, Urness, Ciabatti and Byrne.

In the pole vault, senior Nate Waagon secured second with a height of 9’6” on fewer attemptsas Policastro placed third, also clearing 9’6”.

Day won the high jump with a height of 5’8”. Moss also posted a mark of 5’8” but had more attempts so he placed second.

Pickel earned fourth with a distance of 18’4.25” in the long jump.

Taylor Hawkinson placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 37’1.5”. Moss secured fourth with a mark of 36’.

Senior Ethan Kallas placed third in the shot put with a toss of 39’5.5”.

Sophomore Nate Lawrence secured fourth with a heave of 113’7” in the discus.

In the girls’ 100-meter dash, sophomore Madee Harding took the title with a time of 12.8 seconds.

In an exciting 200-meter race, Harding edged Turner’s Clark by .3 seconds, as Harding had a time of 27 seconds.

Harding’s stellar day continued as she won her third individual title in the400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.  Freshman Abbey Johnson took third with a time of 1:07.8.

Sophomore Cora Purdue won the 800-meter run in 2:29. Senior Amber Pickel earned second with a time of 2:36.4.

The winning trend continued in the1600-meterrun as senior Taylor Bluemel captured the title in a time of 5:23.7, beating the field by 19 seconds. Senior Cameron Novy placed second with a time of 5:42.4.

Bluemel’s outstanding day continued as she won the3200-meter runwith a mark of 11:39.3. Freshman Nicole Kamholz placed third with a time of 13:45.5.

In the 300-meter hurdles, junior Kayla Douglas earned third with a markof 54 seconds. Freshman Lexi Oliver secured fourth with 55.7 seconds.

The Cardinals took third in the 4×100 relay in a time of 58.4 seconds.

Brodhead-Juda placed second in the 4×200 relay with a mark of 2:01.1.

The Cardinals took the 4×400 title in a time of 4:27.6,beating the competition by eight seconds.  The members of the winning relay team included Novy, Johnson, sophomore Morgan Tresemer and Purdue.

Brodhead-Juda won the 4×800 title in a time of 10:55. The relay team consisted ofPickel, Purdue, Tresemer and Kamholz.

Senior Katie Flory won the high jump crown with a height of 4’10”. Harding also had a mark of 4’10” but had more attempts.

Johnson secured fourth in the long jump with a distance of 14’2”.

Freshman Abby Mauermann placed third with a lunge of 28’8.5” in the triple jump. Flory came in fourth with a distance of 28’6”.

Junior MirandaRyserearned second in the shot put with a toss of 30’10”. Lawrence took home fourth with a heave of 28’3”.

The Cardinals had an excellent showing in the discus, taking the top three spots. Harper won the title with a toss of 101’9”.  Sophomore Mackenzie Harnish placed second with a mark of 91’1”, and senior Blake Boegli took third with aheave of 82’.
