OBIT - Bastman
Elsie Mae Rodenberg Bastman, 93, of Clinton Wis. entered into eternal rest on Thursday July 7, 2016.
Elsie was born on May 25, 1923, in Sioux Valley Township, Iowa to Harry and Elsie Allers Rodenberg.
She was united in marriage on Nov. 3, 1939, in Souix Falls, SD, to Harry Bastman. He passed away on March 3, 1979. Together they had four children: Kalene, Arlyn, Jeri and Rhonda. They lived in Minnesota and Iowa prior to moving to Wisconsin in 1952.
Elsie was a hard-working woman, a jack-of-all-trades, working in a gas station in IA, and after moving to Wisconsin she was a seamstress, a supervisor at Oak Manufacturing in Elkhorn, a seed-counter at Dairyland Seed, and a deli worker at the Geneva Lakes Dog Track. Following the closing of the track, she volunteered at a Resale shop in Beloit and at Beloit hospital as a Teddy Bear maker until her health wouldnÕt allow her to work any longer.
Elsie was always so energetic and had such a contagious smile and twinkle in her eyes. She was a master gardener, growing bushels of tomatoes to can as well as share with her friends. The family food pantry was always full of items that she canned.
Fishing was also one of ElsieÕs favorite pastimes. Catching bullheads was always such a joy for her and she could show everyone up when it came to cleaning them.
An occasional trip to the casino or seeing shows at The Fireside, as well as her monthly nights out to dinner with her lady friends kept Elsie very happy.
Elsie is survived by her son, Arlyn (Judy) of Stratford, Wis., and daughters Jeri (Ron) Brandl of Chili, Wis., and Rhonda (Erick) Graf of Clinton, Wis., nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry, her oldest daughter Kalene, KaleneÕs two husbands, Miles Green and Dave Thevenot, her six brothers, and one sister and her parents.
Elsie will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
ElsieÕs Funeral Service took place at noon on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 300 High St., Clinton, Wis. with Rev. Gary Schockman officiating.
Friends will be received on Tuesday at Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Internment took place in Clinton Cemetery. Memorials may directed to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in ElsieÕs name. Please share a memory or a condolence with the Bastman family on our website.
