Child predator MUGSHOT

On July 27, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from the parents of a 16-year-old girl. The parents told deputies that the child was having a text message conversation with a 30-year-old male.

The conversation contained inappropriate sexual content for a 16-year-old child. The parents said they read the messages, and the 30-year-old male knew he was talking to a 16-year-old girl.

Despite her age, the male indicated he still wanted to meet with her. The parents provided the deputy the child’s cell phone and their permission for the phone to be searched by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office Detectives.

The cell phone was turned over to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau. During the search of the phone, Detectives located the text messages between the male suspect and the 16-year-old child.

An image that met the definition of child pornography was also found on the child’s phone. It appeared the image had been sent to the male suspect.  Detectives were in contact with the child’s parents, who gave permission for Detectives to use the phone to communicate with the suspect.

Detectives continued the conversation with the suspect via text messages, acting as the 16-year-old child. The suspect asked to meet the child. The suspect said he would meet the child at the Janesville Mall.

On Wednesday, Aug. 3, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Rock County Sheriff’s Office Detectives observed the suspect in the Janesville Mall parking lot.  As the suspect was walking towards the mall entrance, Detectives and Rock County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies stopped the suspect and took him into custody on tentative charges of Child Enticement and Exposing a Child to Harmful Materials.

The suspect was taken to the Rock County Jail where he was interviewed and held on the above charges. After a search warrant was obtained, the suspect’s vehicle was seized and taken to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office to be searched.

The suspect was identified as Brandon W. Urbanski, 36, from Deerfield, Wis.

RCSO Detectives have been in contact with the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation’s (DCI) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce.   DCI is now investigating Urbanski as he lives in Dane County, and information garnered by Rock County Detectives suggests evidence of this crime, and possibly other crimes, are located at Urbanski’s residence in Deerfield, Wis.

This investigation is ongoing at this time. Urbanski is scheduled for jail court on Friday, Aug. 5, at 3 p.m.
