At a meeting last week, the city council voted to proceed with launching a police K9 program in the spring of 2018. Officer Bennett, who has spent 9.5 years with the Brodhead Police Department, presented to the council in favor of the program.

“I feel that studying drug trends – they’re always changing. I believe implementing a canine for our city would benefit the quality of living immensely,” Bennett said. “I can tell you right now, in talking with other jurisdictions, other canine handlers, that in being able to deploy a canine for our community whether it’s a lost child or an elderly person with dementia, time is critical.”
