BRODHEAD – Arthur M. Riese, age 79 of Decatur Township, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at a St. Paul, Minn. hospital.

He was born April 29, 1936 in Janesville, the son of Ernie and Beth (Riemer) Riese. He married Carole Olsen on Feb. 28, 1959, in Brodhead.

Art graduated from Brodhead High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He farmed in Decatur Township for many years and served as the Town of Decatur Chairman for 30 years, having recently retired.

Art was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Bicknell Masonic Lodge #94, both of Brodhead. He also was Director and Vice-President of Wisconsin Town Association, the past President of the Rural Fire Association, and past President of the Green County Towns Association. Art enjoyed fishing, farming, crossword puzzles, antique tractors and going to meetings. He also worked at Ahrens Acres, Brodhead, and was known as the ‘bark delivery man.’

He is survived by his wife Carole, Brodhead; a daughter, Susan (Rick) Kremel, Waukesha; a son, Daniel (Jeananne) Riese, Algonquin, Ill.; a sister, Maribeth (Ivan) McLay, Boulder City, Nev.; a brother, Thomas (Janie) Riese) Waukesha; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Ben) Peterson, Elizabeth and Emma Mayer, Andrew and Jacob Kremel, Jacob and Lanie Riese; and a great-grandson, Everett Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dick Olsen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2015, at the United Methodist Church, Brodhead, with Pastor Krystal Goodger officiating. Burial will be in Moore Cemetery, Decatur Township. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2015, at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home, Brodhead.
