On Dec. 19, at approximately 3:26 p.m., Rock County Deputies in conjunction with Janesville Fire/EMS, and City of Janesville Officers responded to a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Hwy. 14 by N. River Road in Janesville Township.

Initial reports indicated that the accident was a head on collision with two patients seriously injured. Units arrived on scene and rendered aid. Medical treatment was attempted at the scene, however, the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver was transported to Mercy Hospital and subsequently taken to UW Hospital via Med Flight and pronounced dead later in the evening.

Physical evidence left at the scene, along with witness statements revealed a white Ford F-150, operated by a 75-year-old female from Janesville, lost control on icy roads while driving eastbound on US Hwy. 14. The F-150 traveled into the westbound lane of traffic striking a blue Chevy Crew Cab pickup truck operated by a 57 year old male from Davis, Ill. Witness statements suggest speed was not a contributing factor. Investigation at the scene also did not reveal any suggestion of alcohol/drug impairment. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

The Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Team responded to the scene along with the Rock County Medical Examiners personnel. Highway 14 was re-routed for approximately five hours due to the accident.
