Robert Maveus

BRODHEAD – Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Robert (Bob) L. Maveus, departed this world on July 9, 2015, after a brief and courageous struggle with lung cancer at the age of 85.
Born Sept 9, 1929 in Brodhead to Celia Olson and Frank Maveus Sr., Bob graduated from Brodhead High School and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where he was honored with recognition as a Lettered All-Time Football Player in 1950.
After living a few years in Minneapolis, Bob and his family moved back to Brodhead.
Bob opened his flooring business, Bob’s Carpets, in 1972. He enjoyed his business, employees and customers and would spend most days working there even after his son Dirk took over the business in 1994.
His other great pleasure was fishing in Northern Wisconsin. He often went with friends or alone with his boat to Minocqua, WI.
When the children were younger, Bob and his family would camp each summer traveling throughout the Northern United States. Later Bob and his wife, Carol, traveled many places around the world. When the senior years arrived Bob and his wife traveled to Arizona with their trailer and in later years spent several months each winter in St. Augustine, Florida.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carol, daughters, Julie (Dan) Brummel of Madison, Laura (Gary) Steuck of Verona, sons, Dirk of Brodhead, Todd of Madison, Rob of Madison and Jon of Cross Plains. Grandchildren: Travis Coplien of Brodhead, Paul (Jackie) Berenger of Huntley, Ill., Rachel Braun of Madison, Parker and Griffin Maveus of Mesa, Az., Zack and Matthew of Huntley, Ill. and a niece RoseAnne, daughter of Frank Maveus Jr.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Celia, his brother, Frank Jr. who was a paratrooper, killed while on patrol during WWII, and granddaughter, Victoria Maveus Braun, 16, killed in an auto accident in 2010.
Bob was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brodhead.
A heartfelt thank you to Mike and Bonnie Martin for years of special friendship with Bob.
We would also like to thank all of the staff at Wood’s Crossing for their kindness and compassion.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead. Reverend Peder Johanson officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Everson Funeral Home, Brodhead, is assisting the family.
