One inning and errors doomed the Cardinals’ (1-1) softball squad as the Madison Edgewood Crusaders beat Brodhead 6-4 last Tuesday.

The Cardinals jumped on Madison Edgewood starter Hanna Noyce for four runs in the bottom of the first.

Senior Ali Rosheisen slapped an opposite-field single to left field to open the inning. Junior McKayla Hayes then laid down a perfect bunt. On the play, Noyce threw wild to first, allowing Rosheisen to advance to third. Junior Azzy Steiner then drilled an RBI single to left field, and a second run came home as left fielder Samantha Alderson misplayed the ball. Junior Whitney Gerber hit a perfectly placed RBI base hit into left field just over the shortstop to put the Cardinals up 3-0. Senior Michelle Loffelholz capped the scoring on an RBI single into right field. Noyce retired the next two Cardinals to strand runners on second and third.
