BRODHEAD – Forrest L. Zimmerman, age 87, of Monroe, formerly of Juda, passed away at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born Aug. 8, 1927, on the home farm in Spring Grove Township, the son of Milo and Eunice (Mather) Zimmerman. He married Marjorie Budd on Feb. 6, 1954, at the Monroe United Methodist Church. She passed away on Feb. 23, 2010.

Forrest attended Oakley Country School and graduated from Brodhead High School in 1945. He and his wife farmed in Oakley until 2006. He dug graves in the surrounding area for over 50 years. Forrest loved to play cards, play and collect violins and dance. He was a member of the Oakley Church.

He is survived by his children: Vickie (Ron) Gobeli, Monroe, Kim Zimmerman, Iowa, Julie Gallien, Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Phillips, Delavan and Lauretta Johnson, California. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Lee Kelso, and brothers Merton and Lowell at birth.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home, Brodhead. Chaplain Brian Baker officiated. Burial was in the Oakley Union Cemetery, Oakley. A memorial fund will be established. Online condolences may be made at www.dlnewcomerfuneralhome.com
