 BRODHEAD- The Brodhead-Juda girls and boys track and field teams won the Rock Valley south conference championship meet Tuesday, May 5. The girls took home the title with 151 team points and the boys dominated with 190 team points beating Clinton who had 145 points.

Freshman Madee Harding won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.11 edging Beloit Turner’s Mattiana Stackhouse who had a time of 13.17. Harding captured the 200-meter dash in a thrilling race at 27.12 beating Big Foot’s Brooke Wellhausen, who came in at 27.17. Cardinals’ freshman Erin Nyhus took fifth with a time of 28.59.

In the 400-meter dash, Wellhausen topped Harding with a time of 1:00.09. Harding placed second at 1:01.49. Senior Morgan Adkins earned fifth with a time of 1:04.69. Freshman Cora Purdue placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35.94. Junior Taylor Bluemel finished fourth at 2:41.33 in the 800-meter run. Bluemel continued her strong day taking second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:23.46. Bluemel placed third with a time of 12:50.43 in the 3200-meter run.

In the 100-meter hurdles, senior Maggie Douglas placed third with a time of 19.04. Sophomore Kayla Douglas had an impressive showing in the 300-meter hurdles earning second with a time of 55.25 and Maggie Douglas took fourth at 55.70.

Brodhead-Juda placed fifth in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 57.80. The Cardinals earned third at 1:58.36 in the 4×2000-meter relay. Brodhead-Juda secured second in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:26.33.The team consisted of senior Rachael Miller, Adkins, Nyhus and Purdue. The Cardinals dominated the 4×800 meter relay winning the event by four seconds at 10:36.The 4×800 team included freshman Makenzie McIntyre, freshman Morgan Tresemer, Adkins and Purdue.

Brodhead-Juda had an impressive showing in the high jump taking three of the top six spots. Harding won the title with a height of 5’2”.  Junior Katie Flory took fifth at 4’10” and sophomore Miranda Klitzman placed sixth with a height of 4’8”. Adkins earned fourth with a distance of 14’5” in the long jump. Senior Paige Hoesly took fifth at 14’3.5”. Hoesly continued her effective day in the field events placing third in the triple jump with a lunge of 29’7”.

Junior Ann Beyer captured the shot put title with a toss of 32’.5”. Sophomore Miranda Ryser took fifth with a heave of 30’1”. Freshman Sage Harper continued her solid season placing second in the discus with a distance of 94’8”. Junior Blake Boegli took fourth at 93’.5” and senior Klaudia  Buehl placed sixth with a toss of 76’11.5” to complete the Cardinals impressive  showing in the discus. Sophomore Rachel Nagel earned sixth with a height of 6’ in the pole vault.

In the boys 100-meter dash, junior Dylan Kubly placed third with a time of 12.10. The Cardinals dominated the 400-meter dash taking the top two spots. Senior CJ Hack won the event at 53.33 and junior Jakob Harper finished second witha time of 54.10. Cardinals’ sophomore Tyler Urness captured the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.68, which was six seconds better then the field. Hack continued his stellarday placing third at 2:14.19 in the 800-meter run. Urness won his second event capturing the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:44.12. Sophomore Nate Ciabatti also had a strong race placing fourth at 4:55.24. Ciabatti earned second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:13.59.

Senior Mitchell Johnson won the 110-meter hurdles at 16.47 edging Big Foot’s Jackson Enz, who had a time of 16.90 in an exciting race. Sophomore Noah Steinmann placed fourth with a time of 20.00. Steinmann earned second in the 300-meter hurdles at 45.91. Sophomore Ruben Larson took third with a time of 46.23. Freshman Brekan Day placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles at 48.82.

The Cardinals won the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 47.22. The team consisted of senior Gavin Baade, junior Jake Pickel, Johnson and Kubly. Brodhead-Juda secured second in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:38.47 in a tight race. Brodhead-Juda won the 4×400 meter relay at 3:41.94 and the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 9:30.10. The 4×400 team included sophomore Jack Speckman, Harper, Hack and Steinmann. The 4×800 team consisted of junior Dereck Byme, Harper, Ciabatti and Larson.

In the high jump, Day placed third with a height of 5’8”. Larson took fourth at 5’6”. Pickel earned third in the long jump with a distanceof 18’7.5”. Larson placed sixth at 17’9.75”. Sophomore Taylor Hawkinson had a solid showing in the triple jump taking third with a lunge of 35’5”. Johnson placed sixth with a distance of 33’7”.

The Cardinals dominated the shot put. Senior Logan Maurer placed second with a toss of 49’3”. Seniors Reave Lincoln took fourth with a heave of 42’8.25” and Baade took sixth at 38’2.5”. Maurer captured the discus at 148’2” and Baade earned third with a throw of 133’2”. Junior Nate Waagon placed third with a height of 9’6” in the pole vault.
