GILBERT ALLEN RIEMER

Rock City, IL – Gilbert Allen Riemer, age 81, passed away on May 11, 2024 while at the SSM Monroe Hospital in Monroe, WI.

Gilbert was born on August 1, 1942 in Freeport, IL the son of Glen and Evelyn (Horstmeier) Riemer.

Gilbert married Shirley Marty on December 14, 1963 in Rock Grove, IL.

Gilbert farmed in the Rock City area for over ten years before working at First McNess in Freeport and later running his own feed sales company, Rie-Mar Feeds. He also sold cars for many years at various auto dealerships in the area. Gilbert was a past school board member for the Orangeville School Board and was a member of the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Afolkey.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Shirley; two children, Dan (Niki) Riemer and Kim (Brian) Smith; 3 grandchildren, McKenzie (Matthew) Holste, McKayla Riemer and Brady Smith; 1 great grandson, Lane Holste; his siblings, Darrell (Linda) Riemer, Carol ( Jim) Fager, Janice (Karl) Hughes, Deborah (Peter) Latimer and Susan (Mark) Drackenberg; a sister-in-law, Karen (Larry) Ayers and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, a son Mark Riemer in 2023 and one brother, Paul Riemer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family in Gilbert’s memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the family farm at 2763 East Hickory Grove Road in Dakota, IL. A memorial service will also be held at the farm at 12:30 PM. Cremation rites have been accorded and the DL Newcomer Funeral Home in Brodhead, WI assisted the family.
