Clinton Cougars Claim Second Round Play-Off Game
The Clinton Cougar football team survived the second round of WIAA Division 5 playoffs by beating the Arcadia Raiders with a score of 14-7. The Cougars faced a very evenly matched opponent on both sides of the ball. Both teams spent most of the first half trying to make the right adjustments to score. Arcadia would strike first, giving the Cougars their first half time trail of the season. The Cougars would bounce back in the second half and score on a Peyton Pope run. The extra point was missed, so the Cougars still trailed. No matter, as the Cougar defense made the adjustments needed to force Arcadia to scramble. Clinton’s offense would then once again find the end zone, this time by Junior Zach Krause.
The Cougars would make the two-point conversion to go ahead by one touchdown. Solid play on defense would hold the Arcadia Raiders the rest of the game; and the Cougars went on to win the contest. The Cougars will again host on Friday, Nov. 4, when number two-seed Lancaster comes to town.
