Benjamin C. Riemer

Benjamin C. Riemer, 94, of Brodhead, passed away on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at Woods Crossing Nursing Home in Brodhead. He was born on Oct. 28, 1922, in Decatur Township, the son of Charles and Alma (Stamm) Riemer.  He married Arlene V. Roen on Nov. 26, 1943, at the East Luther Valley Church in rural Beloit.  She passed away on Aug. 24, 2009.

Ben and Arlene farmed on Ben’s family farm in Decatur Township in Green County before moving to Brodhead in 1984.  He graduated from Albany High School and was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brodhead.  He served on many committees through the years, including the Southern Wisconsin Board of Directors Co-op for 29 years, the Decatur School Board, the County ASC Committee, as a Charter Member of the NFO, the Brodhead City Council and Planning Commission, and as the accessor for Spring Grove and Decatur Township for over 30 years. He was also very active in the Brodhead Senior Center and the Albany Historical Society.  He enjoyed camping and fishing.

Ben is best remembered for having a giving heart, friendly nature, and helping hand, always being there to lend a helping hand to family and neighbors whenever he was asked or saw needs.

He is survived by his children,Bergene Cowan, Baraboo, Vickie (Ed) Dorst, Fond du Lac, Linda (Roaul) Wuethrich, Necedah, Duane (Audrey) Riemer and Robert (Tammy) Riemer, both of Brodhead, and Joe (Deb) Riemer, Marshfield; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; seven great great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Nona Nelson, of Albany.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Sandra (John) Popanz; great-granddaughter, Brittany Popanz; three sisters, Iva Sanderlin, Luella Knutson, and Nellie in infancy; and two brothers, Gail and Nellis Riemer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 23, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Brodhead, with Rev. David Frey officiating.  Burial will be in the Gap Cemetery in Decatur Township.  A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Brodhead or Albany Historical Society.

His children wish to thank the many community folks, staff, and residents at Woods Crossing for all the love and kindness shown to their father.  They are so appreciate every little and big thing you did to help him have a full and blessed life these last few years.
