VERNON L. MURRAY

Vernon L. Murray, 89, of Brodhead, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Premier Rehab, Beloit, Wis.  He was born in a log cabin on Sept. 6, 1927, in Pickwick, Minn., the son of Curtis and Bessie (Griffin) Murray.  He married Lois I. Brosier on April 17, 1946, in Beloit.

Vern started working at the age of 15 and entered the military, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII.  He started Murray’s Auto Salvage with his brother Earl and operated the salvage yard for 31 years.  Vern also worked at the Beloit Foundry prior to the salvage yard.

Vern liked to hunt, fish, go Las Vegas, and gamble with his family, but he especially loved time spent at the family cabin in Boulder Junction, Wis.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; a daughter, Maxine Ast, of Brodhead; three sons, Curtis (Susan), of Edgerton, Wis., Vernon (Sylvia) and Robert, both of Brodhead; two sisters, Rosemary Amundson and Doris Murray, both of Beloit; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Earl and Cecil, and a brother-in-law, Virgil Amundson.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 13, at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home, Brodhead, Wis., with Chaplain Mark Maxted officiating.  Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead.  Visitation was on Sunday, March 12, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
