Swim team members build skills while having fun

Students on the Brodhead Local Area Swim Team — or BLAST — are learning life skills in the pool while spending time with friends.
“It’s a really relaxed atmosphere with BLAST,” said Tyler Urness, Brodhead pool manager.
The season always begins in mid-June and runs through mid-August. This year there are about 20 BLAST students ranging in age from 8 to 18.
Coach Madisyn Kail keeps the focus on the four competitive strokes: freestyle, back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly. Students also focus on learning the important life skills of swimming and becoming comfortable in the water, Urness said.
