Soldier: A soldier presents the Brodhead wreath be-fore it is laid by students at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

This Veterans Day will be a bit more meaningful to dozens of Brodhead Middle School students who recently visited Washington D.C., paying homage to those who served and learning about the country’s history and government through visits to monuments and museums.

Led by social studies teacher Dan Rueckert, 72 students, teachers and chaperones ventured to the U.S. Capitol Oct. 21-23, marking the 25th year Brodhead has made the educational trip.

The eighth-grade social studies classes incorporate their experiences into the curriculum throughout the school year, according to Principal Lisa Semrow.
