Alice Marie Roemer, 74, of Brodhead, made her journey into heaven on August 8th, 2023 at 1:55 am, while spending her last days at Monroe Hospice Home, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Alice Kuhnke, daughter of Harvey and Elaine Kuhnke, was born on June 11, 1949 in Elkhorn, WI. She grew up in Whitewater, WI and attended the Whitewater Unified School District. Alice and her twin, Joe Kuhnke, were the oldest of four children. Alice was introduced to the Lord at a very young age. Hearing others share about their relationship with God fascinated her, and this inspired her to grow her own relationship with the Lord that would strengthen and deepen as her life went on. After high school, Alice attended University of Whitewater for a year. She then worked at Schultz Bros. Dept. Store. At the age of 32, Alice married Paul Roemer at St. Rose Catholic Church on August 1, 1981. Paul and Alice rode a tandem bicycle from Brodhead, WI to Bayfield, WI and back for their honeymoon trip-a story that is still remembered by many to this day. Over the next six years, Alice and Paul were blessed with three beautiful boys: Matthew, Daniel and Michael. Alice was a stay at home mother and put her heart and soul into raising her boys up to be the gentlemen they are today. In addition to being a stay at home mother, Alice was a woman of many talents. She inspired many with her singing voice in solo, choir and church cantor work. She also wrote lovely religious poetry and songs. Above all, Alice was known to be a very gifted seamstress and quilter. She made tuxedos and suits for her family; in fact, many of her quilts and wall hangings were done with hand stitching/embroidery. Alice had a service-heart by nature. She devoted much of her time during her adult life to the Brodhead School District. She first began volunteering at the elementary school helping her husband, Paul, with his music classes. She made costumes and backdrops for his musical performances, as well as bulletin boards and props for his classroom. Alice also provided instrument and voice tutoring for many students. She then worked as a summer school aide in Paul’s “Cabin Kids” class, as well as in Suzanne Calhoon’s sewing classes for many years. Later in life, she volunteered her time as a seamstress, fitting band uniforms and show choir outfits at the high school. Due to Alice’s motherly nature, she made a wonderful mentor to many over the years, especially to her “adopted” daughter Tarie, whom Alice took under her wing while working as a teachers aide.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Elaine Kuhnke.

Alice is survived by her husband Paul, three sons: Matthew (Rachel), Dan (Brittnie), and Michael (Jennifer), seven grandchildren: Dorian, Emerson, Porter, Henry, Charlie, Savannah, and Caroline. She also leaves behind her twin brother Joe Kuhnke, and her sisters Candy (Don) Roeker and Sue (Jeff) Homan.
