Waukesha, WI – Bonnie Kay Sveom, age 83, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Bonnie, the daughter of Clifford and Fern Hawkins, was born on July 19,1941 in Beloit, WI. She graduated from Brodhead High School in 1959.
While in high school, Bonnie met the love of her life, Robert “Dirk” Sveom, at a chance meeting on Halloween night in 1958. Dirk and Bonnie married on November 20,1960, at the original Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brodhead.
Bonnie had a lifelong devotion to family. Even with five children of her own, she often welcomed others into their home and made them part of the Sveom family. Throughout the years, Dirk and Bonnie’s farm in Vernon County became a gathering place for immediate family, extended family, and friends. With steadfast determination, Bonnie was instrumental in making the farm a place for present and future generations to come together and continue her love of family.
Bonnie loved to travel. When she and Dirk retired, they set off on countless adventures — whether by motorcycle, cruise ship, train, or RV — traveling throughout the 50 states and making many lifelong friends along the way.
She will be dearly missed by: her husband, Dirk; their five children (Stacy (Susan) Sveom, Darren Sveom, Heather (Stephen Sinnott) Sveom, Naomi (Glen) Ackley, Trent (Christine) Sveom); eleven grandchildren (Rachelle (Ryan) Chudada, Coleen (Michael) Chapel, Allen (Nick) Sveom, Amanda (Tim) Ferris, Signe (Raul) Pliego Guadarrama, Lyndsi (Erik) Brown, Sarah Sveom, Macayli Hausmann, Kyle Lopez, Ryan Lopez, Hannah Sveom; and seven great-grandchildren (Jaxon Chudada, Lennox Chapel, Landon Chudada, Laci Chapel, Millie Ferris, Abella Pliego Guadarrama, and Arturo Pliego Guadarrama).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Fern Hawkins.
