Brodhead library to get appraisal for statue
By Dan Moeller, Correspondent
The Brodhead library has a bronze statue that apparently is worth at least $10,000.
That was the report that library director Angela Noel gave to the library board last week. Noel had the 27-inch statue informally appraised at an Antique Roadshow type event recently. The appraiser, Michael Moran, offered her $10,000 for it, she said.
The statue, “Angel of God” by Swedish sculptor Carl Milles, was created around 1925. It was on display at the Art Institute of Chicago during the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair, Noel said. It was lent to the museum by a Wisconsin-born man named Chester J. Johnson of Chicago.
