At their Oct. 18 meeting, the Brodhead City Council approved allowing the Brodhead Police Department to begin fundraising to implement the department’s first-ever multi-purpose police canine.

Police Chief Chris Hughes said that it is the department’s mission to continuously research and implement proactive programs which prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime, and improve the quality of life for everyone in and around the Brodhead community. “I have a great appreciation for a canine’s team ability to detect drugs [and] locate missing and endangered persons, as well as cutting down the human resources and time spent doing so,” Hughes said.
