The 13-seed Brodhead Cardinals fell to four-seed Madison Edgewood 69-51 in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal last Tuesday.

Alex Arians drove to the rim for a conversion. Seconds later, he came up with a steal and slam dunk on the other end to put Madison Edgewood up 7-3. Arians dialed up a corner three to extend the lead to 10-5 with 14:01 on the clock. Arians was a difficult matchup all night for the Cardinals.

Brodhead then seized control of the game with a 12-2 run to go up 17-12 midway through the half. Junior Brekan Day torched the Crusaders’ defense during the run.  Day sparked the run with consecutive drives and finishes at the rim. Junior Justice Tway scored on a left-hand hook shot on the block. Day also got his teammates quality looks as he got deep in the paint, drawing defenders and dishing to senior Tyler Urness, who converted the uncontested lay-in. The run was capped on a well-executed out-of-bounds play as Tway curled around a screen and caught the inbound pass on the block for an uncontested lay-in.
