BRODHEAD – The Lady Cardinals broke down East Troy’s zone defense Friday night with a combination of great ball movement and stellar shooting.

Eight different players scored, and Brodhead put up a season high 86 points in their first Rock Valley crossover game of the year.

Erin Nyhus and Amber Pickel owned the first half, scoring a combined 30 points, and leading the Cardinals to a 47-31 halftime lead.

Nyhus and Pickel finished the night with 24 points each.  Kylie Moe joined her teammates in double figures, tallying 16 points of her own, 12 of which came in the second half.

Joining Nyhus, Pickel, and Moe in the balanced scoring attack were Cameron Novy with 7 points, Catherine Hazeltine 6, Ali Rosheisen 4, Morgan Cook 3, and Taydra Foecking 2.   The Cardinals were 8 for 12 from the free throw line.

The Cardinals were also relentless defensively, led by Amber Pickel in the post.

Cardinals’ coach, Brian Kammerer, was pleased with how the Senior stepped up against the 6’2 Katrina Santos.

“Amber had a tough assignment, and I thought she did a pretty good job containing a much taller Santos,” said Kammerer.

Santos was limited to only 6 points in the first half.  However, she finished the game with a team high 21 points, after taking advantage of some Cardinals foul trouble.

With the win, the Cardinals are 3-0 in Rock Valley Conference play, and 5-0 overall.

Brodhead travels to McFarland tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7:15 p.m. for another Rock Valley crossover game.
