CHS students excel at DECA District Competition

CLINTON – Students from Clinton High School recently attended the District DECA Competition in Sun Prairie. Prior to the competition, students were required to complete an economics exam as part of the competition. The day of the competition, students took a cluster test and performed two role plays in front of judges. Students could choose from 20 different categories in which to compete. This year, Clinton students chose to compete in the areas of automotive services, apparel and accessories, retail merchandising, finance, and restaurant management. Five out of 15 Clinton students in attendance earned medals and one student received an honorable mention. Jack Gunnink in automotive services, and Cameron Klein in restaurant management, each received a medal for one of their role plays. Those who received medals for their cluster tests were Colin Carlson and Trevor McKichan, in retail merchandising, and Jordan Barker in restaurant management. Colin Carlson also received an honorable mention in his retail series, meaning all his scores combined ranked him between fifth and eighth place. Even though Gabby Wellnitz did not receive a medal in her category, her combined score was one of the highest scores overall amongst the Clinton team. Jack Gunnink, Cameron Klein, Trevor McKichan, Colin Carlson, and Gabby Wellnitz all qualified to take part in the state competition at the Grand Geneva in March. Congratulations to all competitors!
