Clinton’s current Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) infestation will soon have destroyed over 200 ash trees on private properties in Clinton. Such losses degrade our community’s appeal, natural environment, ecology and property values contrary to Clinton’s Strategic Plan. To help combat these loses in 2016 Foresters offered a program to partner with private residents on a 50/50 cost-sharing basis to plant trees throughout the Village. Twenty trees were recently planted on private properties. Plus, two more trees were placed on public lands under this program.

Program trees included six varieties of various sizes; trees with 1.5”-2” trunk diameter were professionally installed. Partners could acquire one or more trees as planting space allowed. Trees available to partners at their 50% cost were: Honey Locust at $147.50, Elm (hybrid) at $147.50, Hackberry at $147.50, Linden at $147.50, Pear (fruitless) at $147.50 and Service Berry at $132.50.

Foresters hope to continue this project again in 2017. But, call upon residents to supplement this limited effort by independently planting trees on their properties now and into the future for best results. Free tree selection/planting advice is now readily available from the Clinton Forestry Board.
