OBIT - Larsen

Doris M. Larsen, 92, passed into Eternal Life on July 5, 2016 at Sun Valley Terrace in Beloit, Wis. Doris was born on Feb. 5, 1924, the third child of Ethel (Ramsey) and Marion Thompson.

She was a life-long resident of Clinton where she went to high school and worked at Fairbanks Morse & Co during the war years. Doris was married to Leon Schoonover on Oct. 21, 1942. Leon passed away in 1968 following a long battle with Huntington’s Disease.

In 1969 Doris married LaVere Larsen of Clinton and they farmed for 20 years until LaVere’s death in 1988. Doris worked at the Butterfly Club for 23 years and always enjoyed her time with staff and customers alike.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Keith) Hackett of Madison; Karen (Ron) Hardt of Allens Grove; one son, Leonard (Denise) Schoonover of Clinton; and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Schoonover of Clinton.

She is further survived by 11 grandchildren, Sherry Appledorn of Minneapolis; Tracy Pace of Phoenix; Kimberly Thayer of Whitewater; Lisa (Bill) Grams of Kaukauna; Stacy (Brian) Beals of Clinton; Jamie (Paula) Schoonover of Clinton; Christine (Rick) Gilpatrick of Whitewater; Eric (Kari) Schoonover of Beloit; Laura Schoonoer of Clinton; Carrie (Andy) Kooyenga of Clinton; Dan (Sara) Schoonover of Janesville. She is great-grandmother to 27 precious children and great-great-grandmother to two little ones.

Doris was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Marion Thompson; two brothers, Donald and Dean (who gave his life on Iwo Jima); her first husband, Leon Schoonover; and her late husband, LaVere Larsen; and a dear son, Larry Schoonover.

Many thanks to the Hospice nurses and CNA’s that provided such loving care of mother as she made her end of life journey. Also, thank you to the staff at Sun Valley for their care of mom and for making the family feel so welcome in their home.

Special thanks to a loving granddaughter Stacy, who spent so much time caring for Gram and doing all the little things that make her a “special kid.”

Doris’s Funeral Service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church Of Clinton, 309 Allen St., Clinton with Rev. Charles Case officiating. Friends were received on Saturday at Church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
