Dorothy Darlene Thompson Armstrong, 101, of Beloit, WI, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024 in her home.  She was born on March 29, 1922 in Brodhead, WI, and was the third daughter of Thomas S. and Maude (Knutson) Thompson. Dorothy married Allen Armstrong on August 28, 1948. Allen passed away on March 5, 2014. They were married for 65 years.

She graduated from Beloit High School in1939 and attended vocational school (Business College). She lived in Beloit most of her life except for 20 years in Brodhead, WI, and moved back to Beloit in 2003.

While in Brodhead she and Allen enjoyed spending many weekends at their friend’s cottage on Red Stone Lake. They went on a Panama Canal cruise, trips to Las Vegas, Ho Chunk Casino, and Arlington track. They spent several winters in Florida. They were avid golfers and they played Rummikub almost every day.

She worked as secretary to the purchasing agent at Fairbanks Morse, office manager of Beloit Airways, millinery manager and dress buyer at E.L. Chester Co., and retired after 24 years in the accounting department at the Beloit Corporation.

She was the first woman to be on the board of directors of the Beloit Corp Credit Union and First American Credit Union. Dorothy served as Chairman of the Board and board member for 12 years. She was also the first woman to serve on the Decatur Golf Course Board of Directors.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, member of the Elk’s Lodge, past member of Decatur Lake Golf Course, and the Beloit Municipal Golf Course.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Gregory) Mueller of Brodhead, WI; son, Richard (Dawn Boski) Armstrong of Beloit, WI; granddaughters, Leah (Jayson) Langerman of Littleton, CO, and Jennifer (Michael) Krause of Brodhead, WI; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Carter Langerman of Littleton, CO; one step great-granddaughter, Bryanna Kruse of Madison, WI; brother-in-law, Richard Armstrong of Beloit, WI; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; husband; sisters, Katherine Doll of Beloit, WI and Marcella Salmons of Beloit, WI; sisters-in-law, Muriel Jones of Beloit, WI and Marion Morton of Burlington, WI; brothers-in-law, Norman Lovaas of Beloit, WI, Nelson Morton of Burlington, WI, Bruce Jones of Beloit, WI, Raymond Salmons of Beloit, WI, and Ralph Doll of Beloit, WI; three nieces, Carol Fairbert of Beloit, WI, Susan Richards of South Beloit, IL, and Debbie Kendall of Burlington, WI; nephews, Rolland Burnett of Janesville, WI, and Ronald Lovaas of New Glarus, WI.

The family would like to thank Anna Gates, Julie Williams, John Gwin, and Arlene Slindes for their excellent care of mom.
