DR. FRANK F. SHULER, 90

Dr. Frank F. Shuler, 90, of Blue Spring Lake in Palmyra, died peacefully on Jan. 15, 2017 at Rainbow Hospice in Johnson creek. Frank was born on April 1, 1926 the son of Frank and Ruth (Ko-thman) Shuler.
He graduated from Janesville High School in 1944 and enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in October 1943, and served in WWII. Frank attended UW (Madison) from 1945-1948 completing his pre-dental education and joined Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Frank married Jean Brann in Racine on Sept. 11, 1948. He attended Marquette University School of Dentistry from 1948-1952.
He practiced dentistry in Clinton, Wis. from 1952 until 1992; a profession he loved and served faithfully. He attended numerous post-graduate studies to keep abreast of changing techniques and improvements.
In his field of dentistry, Frank was president of the Rock County Association and president of the Wisconsin Dental Association. He then served on the Board of the American Dental Association for eight years becoming its president in 1976-1977. Frank was also a delegate to the FÄdÄration Dentaire Internationale (FDI). He was president of the Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board and was a member of CRDTS – the 11 state Board of Examiners who test and approve graduating students to enter the profession. Frank was a fellow of Pierre Fauchard, the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
He received the Marquette Dental School Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1976 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the WI Dental Association in 1994.
He was active in the community through membership in Kiwanis, American Legion, Sons of Norway and Jaycees, where he served as local and state president. Frank was on the Clinton Village Board as president for 16 years, Blackhawk Technical College Board as president, Clinton Community Bank Board and a member of Jefferson Prairie Lutheran Church. Frank was hon-ored as one of the Jaycees Five Outstanding Young Men in Wisconsin in 1960.
As a youth, he started using his hands to build and race in the Soap Box Derby in Madison. His hobby became woodworking, which continued into retirement, making lots of gifts for children and grandchildren, some furniture, and even entered a couple of craft shows.
In 1997, he and Jean moved to Blue Spring Lake, Palmyra, Wis. where they had a cottage for many years. Frank became involved in the area as President of the Blue Spring Lake Management District, a member of 40 and 8, the Masonic Lodge, ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out), and St. Matthew Lutheran Church. For 15 years, he and his wife wintered for three months in The Villages, FL.
Frank was a die-hard Badger and Cubs fan, holding season tickets for 68 years at Camp Randall and lived out his dream to see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series.
His family includes his wife, Jean, four children: Dr. Charles (Cynthia) Shuler in Vancouver, BC; Kathryn Schaff in Cambridge, MN; Dr. Andrew (Geri Jo) Shuler in Janesville, Wis.; and Kristine (John) DeGrace in Elmhurst, Ill.; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, brothers Vincent (Patsy) Shuler, Dr. Carl (Betty) Shu-ler, and sisters-in-law Patricia Shuler and Phyllis Hay, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John, a brother-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
A visitation will be on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. until the me-morial service at 1 p.m. at St. Mat-thew Lutheran Church – 313 E. Main St., Palmyra, Wis.
