Friends group draws Brodhead library’s concern

The dormant status of the separate Friends of the Library organization was discussed at the Brodhead library board’s meeting last week.

Library director Angela Noel reported the library received an unsolicited mailing from an attorney saying the group has lost its tax exemption status from the IRS. Noel said despite her efforts, she has not had any official response from the Friends group since she became library director a year ago. She will be working to see if the group can be resurrected, with new members if needed. Officials noted that the Friends group has money in an account it controls that could be used by the library.

“The Friends group has been pretty inactive for awhile now,” Noel said in an interview following the meeting. “It’s gotten to the point where we would like to see some movement with the Friends group. If we’re going to have a Friends group, we’d like to have an active Friends group.”
