Getting the band back together Community musicians gear up for annual concert

Musicians of all ages gather weekly in the Brodhead High School band room to rehearse for the annual Brodhead Community Band concert. The concert is set for 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, in Veterans Park.

Every Tuesday night for seven weeks in midsummer, Jenny Flory heads over to the Brodhead High School band room, joining 44 other musicians readying for the culmination of their 90-minute rehearsals: a concert at Twilight in the Park. Flory has been a member of the Brodhead Community Band since its inception eight years ago.

“My reasons for joining the group were to essentially dust off the chops and play my flute again. I hadn’t played with a group since high school in 1982 and genuinely missed that experience,” said Flory in an email. “I liked the idea that this was something that would benefit our own community, too.”
