Gladys Mae Williams
Brodhead- Gladys Mae Williams, age 90, passed away Saturday, January 6th, 2024 at Aster Assisted Living in Monroe, WI.
Gladys was born June 19th, 1933 to William and Ada (Legler) Buehl. She grew up on a farm in Monticello, WI, was her High School Prom Queen and graduated from Monticello High School in 1951 as the class Salutatorian.
She married the love of her life, Walter Williams, at St John’s Evangelical Church in Monroe WI on September 19th, 1954.
They farmed and she worked at Voegeli Chevrolet in Monticello, WI and after her and Walter rented a farm in 1961 in Juda, WI, she then worked for Helland’s Food and Locker.
Besides helping on the farm with the dairy and assisting Walter with the field work, she enjoyed gardening, maintaining her flowers and just being outside. When inside, she loved to cook and bake for Walt while also keeping up with five children, four boys and one girl. While farming in Juda the family attended the United Methodist Church of Juda where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Gladys loved all kinds of dancing with Walter from the polka & the waltz to even ballroom dancing.
Gladys and Walter purchased a farm south of Brodhead, WI where they raised their five children. During the time they farmed in Brodhead, she worked for the FSA Farm Services Agency in Monroe for over 10 years assisting local farmers. After retiring and moving from the farm, Gladys enjoyed travelling with Walt and going camping to places all over Wisconsin, as well as wintertime camping to Florida and Arizona. She loved her family deeply, including grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always happy when they visited and were around or when she could go and enjoy seeing them in sports, dance, racing or whatever they may have been involved in.
After her husband’s death in 2019, she was blessed to have so many friends where she lived, at the Brodhead Senior Village. She enjoyed the group’s many social events as well as sitting outside in the afternoon and evening to enjoy visits from her many neighbors and friends.
