JAMES E. AND RHETA M. NIPPLE
James “Jim” Edwin Nipple, 90, originally from Brodhead, died on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Alden Meadow Park Nursing Rehab in Clinton, and Rheta Marie Nipple, 86, also originally from Brodhead, died at Mercy Health Hospital in Janesville, on Monday, April 25, 2022.
Both were battling health issues in their final years.
Jim was born May 23, 1931 in Brodhead, to the late Oscar and Nellie (Egelhof) Nipple.
Rheta was born Oct. 24, 1935 in Avon Township, Rock County, to the late Albert and Elizabeth (Rhyner) Stuessy.
Both graduated from Brodhead High School. They were married on Sept. 17, 1955 in Brodhead and were lifelong residents until two years ago when they moved to Beloit, and then to an assisted living facility in Janesville.
Jim worked at Besly-Welles Corporation, a division of Bendix Corporation, in Beloit, as a machinist for more than 40 years and served on its labor union board.
He built their first home in the city of Brodhead and their second home in the country on County Road T where they lived for 60 years.
He was a handyman and could fix anything including their cars and loved working in the yard and garden.
As a youth, he set pins at the bowling alley and bowled on leagues for many years.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and attended his children’s and grandchildren’s school sports and activities.
Later in life, Jim and Rheta went on many trips around the country.
Rheta worked at the cheese factory in town when she was younger and then at The Swiss Colony in Monroe for many Christmas seasons.
Later in life, she worked at the local hardware store.
She also bowled on the women’s and couples leagues.
She attended and volunteered as a Sunday school teacher at Brodhead United Methodist Church for many years.
She spent summers gardening and canning and freezing vegetables and fruits.
She loved her flower gardens and watching birds in the yard. She had a talent for crafting and paper quilling.
As a homemaker, she devoted her life to caring for Jim, their four children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include their children, Jeffrey (Ilena) Nipple of Elkhorn; Kurt (Tamra) Nipple of Crossville, Tennessee, Tina (Jerry) Jensen of Bradenton, Florida; and Lisa (Mark) Toso of Roberts, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Thomas (Kristy) Knipple, Nicole Nipple, and Bryce Jensen; great-grandchildren Charlotte and William (Liam); Jim’s sisters-in-law, Joyce Nipple and Karen Nipple; Rheta’s sisters Della Greenberg and Lorna Mitchell and brother-in-law Art Whipple; and many nieces and nephews.
They were further preceeded in death by all five of Jim’s brothers and three sisters; and Rheta’s two brothers and eight sisters.
Per their wishes, no services will be held.
