The Brodhead Cardinals kept the train rolling on their 2023 softball season with a pair of sectional victories, last week. With the wins, the Cards punched their ticket to the 2023 WIAA State Softball Tournament.

Brodhead opened the week with a battle of the mascots as they faced off with the Marshall Cardinals on Tuesday, May 30. Marshall came into the sectional matchup with a record of 19-4, while Brodhead was the one seed at 23-2.

Brodhead was boosted by yet another incredible pitching performance by Mckenna Young and Ava Risum. The duo combined to toss another no-hitter, which was their second of the 2023 postseason. Young and Risum helped to swing the momentum into Brodhead’s hands early on. After Young struck out a pair of batters to start the game, Risum stepped up to the plate and crushed a leadoff homerun over the left field fence.
