Lady Cougars finally play string of games after weather issues

Cougars lose to Jefferson Eagles

The Clinton Cougars lost to the Jefferson Eagles 4-0 on April 8 at Riverfront Park.

Jefferson got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Ashlyn Enke singled, and Aeryn Messmann tripled, each 0 scoring one run.

A single by Hildie Dempsey extended the Eagles lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Jefferson added one run in the third. Chloe Smith singled, making the score 4-0.

Ashley Theisen led things off in the circle for the lady Cougars. They gave up eight hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking two. Aeryn Messmann started in the circle for Jefferson. The right-handed pitcher gave up eight hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking one.

Allie Bell went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Clinton in hits.

Chloe Smith and Hildie Dempsey each collected two hits for the Eagles. Chloe Smith, Enke, Messmann, and Dempsey each drove in one run for them, as well. Jefferson turned one double play in the game and they didn’t commit a single error in the field. Hannah Werning had the most chances.

 

Clinton falls to Brodhead after surrendering big first inning

The Brodhead Cardinals scored 16 runs in the f1rst inning, helping them defeat the Clinton Cougars 20-0 on April 11.

Brodhead got on the board in the top of the first inning after Ava Risum singled, scoring one run, Allie Dahl singled, scoring one run, Jerrica Schwartz singled, scoring one run, Tatum Ceslok singled, scoring two runs, Keegan Steinke singled, scoring one run, Sophia Leitzen hit a grand slam to center field, Schwartz singled, scoring two runs, Steinke doubled, scoring two runs, Leitzen singled, scoring one run, and one run scored on another play.

A solo home run to left field by Risum, a single by Schwartz, and a double by Steinke helped the Cardinals extend their early lead in the second.

Risum began the game for Brodhead. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out six and walking none.

London Winch and Karlee Morris each collected one hit for the lady Cougars. Winch stole two bases. They didn’t commit a single error in  the field. Kylie Goodendorf had the most chances in the field with three.

Brodhead accumulated 19 hits in the game. Ceslok, Schwartz, Risum, Dahl, and Steinke each collected three hits for the Cardinals. Steinke and Leitzen each drove in five runs for them. Leitzen stole two bases; Brodhead stole four bases in the game. The Cardinals were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Schwartz had the most chances in the field with six.

 

Cougars play tough game against East Troy

Clinton’s lady Cougars had trouble keeping up with the East Troy Trojans in a 13-5 loss on April 12.

East Troy got on the board in the top of the first inning after Clinton dropped a third strike, and Anderson grounded out, each scoring one run.

The lady Trojans added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Lily Atkinson singled, scoring one run, Ava Johnson doubled, scoring two runs, and Lilah Feyen singled, scoring one run.

Allie Bell took the loss for the Cougars. The starting pitcher went six and two-thirds innings, giving up nine runs (six earned) on 11 hits, striking out five and walking three. Makaya Anderson led things off in the circle for East Troy. They surrendered 11 hits and five runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking three.

Cougars piled up 11 hits in the game. Kylie Goodendorf, London Winch, and Grace Wilson each collected two hits for the team. Bell and Karlee Morris each drove in two runs.

East Troy piled up 12 hits in the game. Irelyn Loomis provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led East Troy with three runs batted in. The infielder went 4-for-5 on the day. Atkinson and Johnson each collected multiple hits for their team.
