The Brodhead Memorial Public Library may be closer to finding a new director.

Last Thursday board President Ann Anderson told the board that the library interviewed its second candidate earlier that day. However, she said, shortly afterward the candidate texted and withdrew her application. “So we only have one individual,” Anderson said.

However, the candidate is promising enough that officials want to hold a second interview and could move to invite him to come see the library and meet the board. The candidate lives about an hour away and apparently would not move to Brodhead. However, the distance did not seem to be a deterrent, Anderson said. Former director Angela Noel also did not live in Brodhead.

The director’s position has been vacant since mid-June when Noel left to take a similar position in Dodgeville. The library has been seeking a director since April when Noel notified the board she was taking a new position.
