Brodhead, WI – Margaret Marie Smith, age 96, passed away at the SSM Monroe Hospital in Monroe, WI on May 14, 2024.

Margaret was born on April 25, 1928 in Springville, Iowa, the daughter of Clelland and Vernie (Hoag) Port. She married William Smith in 1947 at the Prairie Chapel Church in Marion, Iowa.

Living for many years in Durand, IL, Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and sewing and was an extraordinary cook, known for her special coffee cakes.

Margaret is survived by her 3 children, Barbara Carlson of Edgewater, FL , Scott (Laura) Smith of Redding, CA and Roger (Sherri) Smith of Freeport, IL; 10 grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Frice, Brian (Jessica) Carlson, Amy Mehlhausen, Leslie Riemer, Nathan (Savannah) Smith, Hanna Smith, Evan Smith, James (Kathy) Smith, Rebecca (Rob) Barton, and Micah (Abby) Smith; 14 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; 2 step great great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Ron (Peggy) Phillips and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, William on July 11, 2017 a daughter, Beverlee Phillips; an infant great grand daughter, Grace Mehlhausen; a son-in-law, Joel Carlson and three brothers; one sister and 2 stillborn twin siblings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Indian Grove Country Church in her memory.

Funeral services will be held at the Indian Grove Country Church, 6970 IL HWY 75 in Rock City, IL on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 12:00 PM. A visitation will also be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.

Burial of her cremated remains will be completed at a later date at the Durand Cemetery in Durand, IL.
