Merlin M. Maveus, age 82, of Monroe, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born the son of Maurice and Dorothy (MaCumber) Maveus on Sept. 9, 1938, in Monroe. He was a 1957 graduate of Orfordville High School. Merlin was united in marriage to Carol A. Rufer on March 8, 1964.

Merlin served in the Army Reserves. He then worked for Kelly Springfield tires in Freeport for 35 years. After his retirement he continued working for Clarno Township for seven and a half years.  He was a Minneapolis Moline tractor collector and traveled all throughout the United States and Canada to tractor shows, making many friends along the way. He also was an avid polka dancer and loved to go dancing with Carol. Merlin was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Merlin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; children, John Carl (Susie) Maveus of Monroe and Laurie Ann (Ben) Fuller of New Glarus; and four grandchildren, Nick Maveus, Matt Maveus, Elizabeth Fuller and Analise Fuller.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steven Maveus.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe, Wisconsin, with the Rev. Tiff Bates officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
