Fire chief Rob Scheidegger took the floor during a common council meeting last Wednesday, Feb. 11, to address concerns related to a controlled burn just north of city limits.

“We burned a corn crib,” he said. “There was nothing in it but wood. When we burned it, we had some embers come off the wood shingles. I’ve never seen wood shingles flake off a roof like they did, but they did. They flaked like cardboard. I didn’t realize sparks were going to carry that far.”
