Rock County Histtorical Society to host spooky fun October events

JANESVILLE — Rock County Historical Society has a number of events planned for October—some of them spooky, some of them not, but ALL of them fun!

Oct. 24 is a special day with two different events. Snap Apple Eve is a family-friendly walk through of the first floor of the Lincoln-Tallman House. Don your spooky, kooky and cool Halloween costumes and learn about Halloween traditions based on the historic print “Snap Apple Night,” which hangs in the Lincoln-Tallman House hallway.

Listen to a story and enjoy some festive treats. Outside, make a “pumpkin moonshine” and play Victorian games. This is not a haunted house and is a family-friendly event. The event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. Adults are free and children are $2 each. It begins at the front door of the Lincoln-Tallman House located at 440 N. Jackson St. in Janesville.

Later that evening, it is time to turn up the spookiness. Come back to the Lincoln-Tallman House—with of the lights turned off–and be greeted at the door by a guide with a lantern. Edgar Allen Poe, Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker will be there ready to share stories of horror with you while you sit with only the flickering lantern light. Groups of 25 will enter through the front door at 7, 7:30, 8 and 8:30. Admission is $5 for RCHS Members and $10 for non-members.

Lastly, on Oct. 30 from 7 to 9:30 p.m., RCHS welcomes back The Society for Anomalous Studies to the Helen Jeffris Wood Museum Center to share the research and outcomes of the paranormal research that they have conducted in private and public locations throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa and Kentucky. Tickets are currently for sale on our website and are $5 for RCHS members and $10 for non-members.
