Ted F. Knight, age 69, of Goldfield, Iowa, died on Sept. 1, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on Aug. 11, 1953, in Monroe, the son of Stan and Selma (Laube) Knight. He graduated from Brodhead High School in 1971. He was a former member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

In his youth he grew up spending time out on the Sugar River at Sand Hill and the old railroad trestle. From there his passion for farming started by raising cucumbers for the former Brodhead Pickle Factory.

After high school he worked at his father’s business, Knight Manufacturing of Brodhead.  He later moved to Greely, Colorado, for a short time before returning to work at Knight Manufacturing.  He then farmed on the Knight family farm raising crops and pigs before moving to Iowa to crop farm.  After retiring he continued to plant many conifers and hardwood trees.

Ted enjoyed going to farm trade shows and antique tractor shows and auctions.  He also enjoyed traveling the western states and studying history. He was a loyal Green Bay Packer fan.

He is survived by a brother, Doug (Janice) Knight and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill, and a sister-in-law, Susan Knight.

Ted’s wishes were for a private family graveside service to be held at a later date at the Greenwood Cemetery in Brodhead.

The family would like to thank his neighbor for the many acts of kindness during his illness. A heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mary Greely Hospital in Ames, Iowa, and the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa for their compassionate care.  The DL Newcomer Funeral Home in Brodhead assisted the family with arrangements.
