One of the many chores I had as a farm kid was gathering the eggs each day from the henhouse. We probably had 25 to 30 laying hens all the time on the farm, and they helped provide a little grocery money for the family.

For years my family sold the eggs to neighbors, friends and relatives for $.50 a dozen.  Sometimes we would go to church on Sunday with 10 or 15 dozen eggs for people who wanted them. After church they would come over to our car and pick them up. If they didn’t have the money, they would pay the next Sunday or whenever we ran into them out and about.
