Brodhead, WI – Violet Fern Malcook Covert Truman, age 90, passed away on May 27, 2024, while at home surrounded by her family.

Violet was born on October 16, 1933, on the family farm to Raymond and Mildred (Schwartz) Malcook.  Violet graduated from Brodhead High School with honors in 1951 and later graduated from the Methodist Hospital nursing school, Madison, WI, as a Registered Nurse in 1954.

She married (Dewey) Roland Covert in April of 1954.  For the next 15 years she traveled between Great Lakes Naval Station and California. She worked as a RN in Illinois, California and Wisconsin for over 40 years.

She married Norman Truman in January of 1979 and they were married for 29 years.  Violet enjoyed traveling, having been in 44 states, Canada and Mexico.  She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church of Brodhead and enjoyed sewing, playing cards and painting, but most of all, spending time with her family.

Violet is survived by her 4 children, David (Jackie) Covert, Alan (Michelle) Covert, Susan Kneen and Tami (Ken) Jacobson; 2 step children, Dean (Debra) Truman and Shirley (Duane) Welte; 18 grandchildren, Jason, James, Jake and Jana Covert, Mitchell, Rylee and Taylor Covert, Christina, Sophia, Johannah and Julia Kneen, Travis, Nicholas and Megan Jacobson, 4 step grandchildren, Tyler Bauch, Amy Schnoor, Kyle and Adam Welte and 19 great grandchildren.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norman, two brothers, Duane and Raymond Jr.; a grandson, Justin Covert; a sister in law, Kay; and a stepdaughter, Phyllis Bauch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed in her name to the Brodhead United Methodist Church or the Brodhead EMS.

Funeral services will be held at the Brodhead United Methodist Church, 501 1st Center Avenue, Brodhead WI, on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM.  A visitation will also be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of services.  Burial will conclude at the Greenwood Cemetery in Brodhead, and lunch served at the Brodhead United Methodist Church.
