The nine-seed Brodhead Cardinals ran into a powerhouse as one-seed Whitewater cruised to a 64-33 victory in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal last Friday.

The Whippets jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the early stages. Ali Ketterhagen got to the rim for a lay-in to spark the blitz. Ketterhagen also knocked down a rightwing three to propel the hot start. Myriama-Smith-Traore scored on a putback to end the Whippets’ surge.

Brodhead slowed the pace of the game in the opening 18 minutes. The Cardinals wanted to limit the possessions for the high-powered Whippets’ offense. Brodhead held the ball for a four-minute stretch early in the game before starting to attack
