Wright rips grand slam in Juda

JUDA- Several area teams traveled to Juda Community Park for a day of softball. Brodhead dropped game one to Monticello 6-2 and beat Juda 7-6 in a thriller in game two last Saturday afternoon, May 9.
Brodhead tied the game at two with a run in the top of the third. Monticello regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Ponies broke the gameopen with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-2.
Junior Amber Pickel went 2-for-3 to lead the Cardinals offense. Senior Taylor Gerlach also went 2-for-3 and a run scored for the Cardinals.
Senior Brooke Boegli took the loss going six innings giving up four hits, three walks, 11 strikeouts, six runs and four earned runs.
The Cardinals scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the second. Juda responded right back scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Panthers added a single run in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to stretch the lead to 6-3.
Brodhead rallied in the top of the seventh to pull out a dramatic comeback win. Senior Payton Wright stepped to the plate with the game on the line and drilled a two out game-winning grand slam over the center field fence to put the Cardinals up 7-6.
Wright led the Cardinals offensive attack going 2-for-4 and four RBIs. Senior Cassie McGuire went 2-for-3 and two RBIs. Gerlach also went 2-for-3 in game two. The Cardinals pounded out eight hits and drew five walks as a team.
