Young athletes shine at invitational

EVANSVILLE- Brodhead-Juda’s young track and field athletes got the opportunity to shine at the 2015 Blue Devil Freshmen and Sophomore Invitational Thursday, May 21. The boys took fourth with 67.5 and the girls also placed fourth with 62.5 team points.
In the 100-meter dash, Josh Harper placed ninth with a time of 12.33 seconds in an exciting race. Harper secured eleventh 11th at 25.76 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Taylor Hawkinson earned sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.94 seconds. Brodhead-Juda had a strong showing in the 800-meter run. Nate Ciabatti earned second with a time of 2:07.60. Reuben Larson took third with a time of 2:08.91.
The Cardinals placed second at 48.18 in the 4×100 meter relay. The 4×100 meter relay team included Will Stephenson, Jack Speckman, Brekan Day and Noah Steinmann. Brodhead-Juda captured the 4×200 meter relay title at 1:40.04.The team consisted of Josh Harper, Jack Speckman, Will Stephenson andNoah Steinmann. Brodhead-Juda captured fourth in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:48.30. The Cardinals took fourth in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 9:54.36.
Brekan Day placed second in the high jump with a height of 5’8”. Larson placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 18’7.5”. Speckman earned tenth with a distance of 16’8.75” in the long jump. Hawkinson took fourth in the triple jump with a lunge of 36’1.5”. In the discus Joe Stout placed 11th with a heave of 94’2”. Oscar Reyes placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 35’1.5” edging Edgerton’s Austin Houfe. Caleb Erb took seventh at 8’6” in the pole vault.
