	Phil and Sandy Fransen of Belleville enjoyed the annual Green County Veterans Day meal with close friends this past Saturday, Nov. 5, at Albany Lions Club.
While Phil Fransen, who spent 4 years in the Air Force in the 1960s, honors other military veterans for their service, he isn’t shy about sharing his Veterans for Peace membership.
Fransen’s story and journey to that membership reflect a remarkable transformation in thinking across a lifetime of service, study, and hard work.

Police investigating fire in historic Monell Block building in Brodhead

Green County EMS; Juda, Monticello, and Monroe fire departments; also Beloit Township Rescue personnel and volunteers were among 10 departments from three counties and Illinois that came to the aid of Brodhead Fire Department in structure fire. Primarily affected was the historic building, which has 5,800-square-foot of combined store front, office, and apartment space.  Police said Monday the fire is under investigation.
